Storm damage in the forest? We clear the timber away.

After a storm, windthrow, snow-break or bark beetle we help you work up the damaged timber safely and bring it to the road. Give us a call – we take a quick look at the situation.

When the storm has swept through the forest

A storm, wet snow-break or the bark beetle can do a lot of harm in a short time: toppled trees, broken crowns, wedged stems. We help you work up this damaged timber and bring it in an orderly way to the forest road, so your forest is safely accessible again.

Where the terrain allows, we work with the harvester, quickly and gently on the ground. Where it is tight, steep or tricky – for instance with single stems under tension or close to buildings – we work manually with the chainsaw. That way we also take apart wedged broken and windthrown timber in a controlled manner.

From windthrow to beetle-killed timber

Whether single toppled trees or large-scale windthrow: we work up the damaged timber and clear it away.

Working up windthrow & storm timber

From the single toppled tree to a large-scale windthrown area, we work up the storm timber and forward it to the road.

Removing toppled trees

Trees that have fallen onto a driveway, pasture, fence or the forest edge, we cut up and clear away so everything is free again.

Tree on or near a building

If a tree is lying or hanging dangerously close to a house, barn or hut, we take it apart carefully and manually, piece by piece.

Clearing a tree off the road

If a toppled tree blocks the forest or access road, we cut it free and make the access passable again.

Clearing bark-beetle timber

We work up infested trees quickly and get them out of the stand to curb the beetle from spreading further.

Recovering timber after a mudslide or landslip

After a mudslide, landslip or flood we recover jammed and displaced timber, as far as it is safe to do so.

From the report to haulage

A clear process so the damaged timber is removed safely and quickly.

  1. 1

    Call and site visit

You describe the situation, we look at it on site and agree the next steps with you.

  2. 2

    Assessing the danger

We check where stems are under tension or broken timber is hanging, and decide what is done with the harvester and what manually.

  3. 3

    Working up the damaged timber

We fell, de-limb and cut up the timber – with the harvester where possible, with the chainsaw where it is tight or tricky.

  4. 4

    Forwarding to the road

We bring the worked-up timber right to the forest road and stage it there, cleanly sorted.

  5. 5

    Haulage and marketing

On request we take care of the haulage from the road and the marketing of the timber through trusted buyers.

Toppled trees are life-threatening

Please take no risks: windthrown and broken timber is often under enormous tension.

Please do not cut it yourself

Toppled and broken trees are frequently under strong tension. A wrong cut can make the stem spring up or twist away suddenly – that is life-threatening. Please leave the working-up to us or another competent person with the right equipment.

Acute danger to people, buildings or a public road?

First notify the fire brigade via the emergency number 122, or the responsible authority. We take care of working up and hauling away the timber afterwards.

Emergency 122

Once the acute danger has been dealt with, get in touch with us – we work up the timber and clear the area.

Damaged timber does not wait

The sooner the timber is out of the forest, the smaller the damage.

The beetle spreads

Lying and weakened timber is an ideal breeding ground for the bark beetle. If it is worked up quickly, you take away its basis and protect the healthy trees around it.

Avoiding loss of value

Fresh damaged timber still has a good value. If it lies around, it discolours and blue-stains, becomes cracked and loses quality – and with it the return.

Limiting follow-on damage

Wedged trees, blocked roads and hanging broken timber become more dangerous over time, not more harmless. Clearing early prevents further damage.

Questions about storm and damaged timber

Briefly answered: what is asked most often after a storm.

What does working up damaged timber cost?

We deliberately quote no fixed prices, because every case of damage is different. Settlement is by effort and solid cubic metre; you get the exact, non-binding quote after an on-site visit. The costs can often be covered from the proceeds of the worked-up timber.

How quickly can you come?

We are reachable Mon–Sat during the day and look at the situation as quickly as possible. However, we cannot promise fixed response times or a round-the-clock emergency service. It is best to get in touch by phone straight away, then we will find an appointment.

A tree has fallen onto my house or across the road – what do I do?

If there is acute danger to people, buildings or a public road, please first notify the fire brigade via the emergency number 122, or the responsible authority. We take care of the subsequent working-up and haulage of the timber.

Can I not just cut the timber away myself?

Please do not. Toppled and broken trees are often under strong tension and can spring up suddenly when cut – that is life-threatening. Leave the working-up to competent hands with the right equipment.

Do you handle the process with the insurance?

Please settle the process with your insurance yourself with them. We are, however, happy to provide you with the paperwork on the worked-up quantity, i.e. the solid cubic metres of damaged timber, so you can submit it to your insurance.

In which area do you help with damaged timber?

We work within a radius of around 50 km of our base, covering parts of the Mostviertel and Mühlviertel, i.e. Lower and Upper Austria. Whether your forest is within range is quickly clarified over the phone.
