Everything around your timber, from one source

From mechanised harvesting and manual felling to forwarding to the road and sale on the stump: we handle the whole process for your forest, from thinnings to heavy timber.

From the site visit to the final settlement

You have a single point of contact for the whole job. We look at your stand on site, fell it mechanically or with the chainsaw, forward the timber to the forest road and stage it there, cleanly sorted and ready for collection. Settlement is transparent, by solid cubic metre.

On request we also handle the marketing and the sale on the stump, so there is nothing left for you to organise. That keeps your effort low and the whole process clear, whether it is a small thinning or a larger heavy-timber harvest.

What we do for your forest

Four services that mesh together so your timber is cleanly harvested, staged and marketed.

Fully mechanised felling

Two parallel-crane harvesters harvest your stand quickly and gently, from the thin thinning stem to strong old-growth timber. On larger areas both run in parallel.

  • Two harvesters: thinnings and heavy timber covered separately
  • Up to 60° slope, even on steep terrain
  • Stem diameter up to 750 mm
  • Log length up to 30 m
  • Clean processing into assortments

Manual felling with the chainsaw

Where the machine can't reach, Rudi works with the chainsaw, for single stems or tight and tricky spots.

  • For tricky and tight spots
  • Single stems and special cases

e.g. from approx. €25/h, non-binding, quote after a site visit.

Forwarding and staging at the road

Rudi brings the felled timber right to the forest road himself, ready for collection. The buyer handles the haulage from the road.

  • Forwarding done by Rudi himself
  • Staged at the forest road

Marketing and sale on the stump

On request we also handle the marketing. With a sale on the stump you sell your timber standing, before it is even felled, which saves you risk and effort.

  • Standing timber is sold (sale on the stump)
  • Settlement by solid cubic metre
  • Through trusted buyers in the region

Fully mechanised or manual – which suits your stand?

Both methods have their place. Which one is right depends on the stand, the quantity and the terrain. Because we offer both, we pick the method that fits your forest instead of having to force one.

Fully mechanised with the harvester

The harvester fells, delimbs and cross-cuts the tree in a single pass – fast, safe and without anyone having to stand among the stems. For thinnings and weaker timber we use the nimble Komatsu 901TX, for strong old-growth the powerful Ponsse Ergo. That covers everything from the thin to the heavy stem.

A good fit for

  • Thinning and area-wide harvesting with a plannable volume
  • Slopes up to 60° gradient
  • Brisk, soil-friendly work in a closed stand

Manual with the chainsaw

Where the machine can't or shouldn't go, Rudi works with the chainsaw. That is the right choice at the forest edge, on single trees and anywhere that calls for special care for the surroundings.

A good fit for

  • Forest edge, single stems and small quantities
  • Sensitive or tight terrain, e.g. near fences, paths or buildings
  • Working up individual damaged or windthrow trees in hard-to-reach corners

Often the combination makes the most sense: the area is harvested fully mechanised, and Rudi then takes the tricky edge trees and hard-to-reach single stems with the chainsaw. Because it all comes from one source, you have nothing to coordinate – we decide on site what suits your stand best.

Thinning, final harvest and the right assortments

Not every felling has the same goal. A thinning is about care, a final harvest about reaping the mature stand. In both cases the timber is worked up into the right assortments while still in the forest.

Thinning

In a thinning we deliberately take out individual trees so the remaining ones get more light, water and space. That strengthens the stand, prevents damage and already yields a return before the final harvest. For this we mostly use the nimble Komatsu 901TX, which works gently between the rows even in a dense stand.

Final harvest

In the final harvest the mature stand is reaped, mostly as valuable heavy timber. This is where the Ponsse Ergo brings its power to bear. Whether area-wide or in several steps, we tune the intervention so the forest can grow on in good order or be replanted.

Cleanly sorted at the skid trail

The harvester already separates the timber by length and quality as it cuts. So there is no jumble at the skid trail, but clearly separated assortments, ready for collection by the buyer.

Saw logs

Straight, knot-free stems with the highest value – they go to the sawmill and become construction and sawn timber.

Industrial wood

Weaker or more crooked wood for the panel and paper industry – an important share especially in thinnings.

Energy and firewood

Crown parts, offcuts and lower qualities become firewood or wood chips, so as little as possible goes unused.

Which assortments pay off most for your stand we discuss before the felling – so your timber goes where it earns the best return.

What we can do

A few reference figures so you can gauge the scale. The exact values depend on the stand and terrain.

approx. 1,000 m³
in around 2 weeks
roughly 3–4 hectares
12–20 m³/h
Felling rate
depending on the stand
approx. 50 km
Service radius
around our base
up to 100 m³
per day
on good days

All figures are for orientation only; we clarify the details on site.

Prices for orientation

We deliberately quote no fixed prices, only example figures so you get a feel for the scale. You get the exact, non-binding quote after an on-site visit.

Chainsaw

e.g. from approx. €25/h

Non-binding, quote after a site visit.

Machine transfer

e.g. €100 for small jobs under 300 m³

Non-binding, quote after a site visit.

By the way: on request the felling costs are settled directly from the timber proceeds, so you pay nothing up front.

Responsible with your forest

Your forest should look good after the harvest too. That is why we work gently on soil and stand and plan our jobs with an eye on the season and the weather.

Gentle on soil and stand

With the harvester and a considered driving line we keep track damage and soil compaction low and protect the remaining trees.

Clean processing

The timber is processed straight into the right assortments and staged tidily at the road, ready for collection by the buyer.

Planned around the season

Jobs depend on the season and the weather. On dry or frozen ground we work especially gently, so it is best to plan with a little lead time.

As a rule of thumb, a hectare of forest grows back around 7 solid cubic metres of timber per year on average, a good basis for planning its use over the long term.

Good to know before the felling

Briefly answered: what forest owners ask most often.

What does the felling cost?

We deliberately don't quote fixed prices, because every stand is different. As a guide: manual felling with the chainsaw starts at, for example, approx. €25/h, and moving the machines to a small job costs, for example, around €100. You get the exact, non-binding quote after an on-site visit.

From what quantity is a job worthwhile?

There is no fixed minimum. Single stems and small quantities are done by Rudi with the chainsaw; for larger areas the harvesters come out. For smaller jobs under around 300 solid cubic metres a transfer flat fee applies, because the machines first have to be brought to the site.

Harvester or chainsaw – which is better for my forest?

We decide that by the stand, the quantity and the terrain. Larger areas, thinnings and slopes up to 60° we harvest fully mechanised with the harvester; single trees, the forest edge and tricky spots Rudi takes with the chainsaw. Often the combination is best – and because it all comes from one source, you don't have to worry about it.

How is it settled?

Settlement is by solid cubic metre; the quantity is determined at haulage by the buyer. On request the felling costs are settled directly from the timber proceeds, so you pay nothing up front.

Which area do you cover?

We work within a radius of around 50 km of our base, covering parts of the Mostviertel and Mühlviertel, i.e. Lower and Upper Austria. Whether your forest is within range is quickly clarified over the phone.

How much lead time should I allow?

After your go-ahead we usually need around 7 working days until the job. Because the work depends on the season and the weather, it is best to ask early, especially before the main season. On dry or frozen ground we can work particularly gently, and we are glad to plan such windows together.

Working in your region: Mostviertel and Mühlviertel

Our business is based in Dorfstetten in the district of Melk, in the heart of the Lower Austrian Mostviertel. From there we work within a radius of around 50 km – for forest owners, farmers, municipalities and businesses on both sides of the Danube.
